Forever Young

It’s official. I’ve been married for one whole year today. I feel so old when I tell people it’s my anniversary. Not that I’ve told anyone besides my own reflection in the mirror, but still. My reflection gave me a look that was like, “sick you’re so old.” It was hurtful.

I’ve realized that I am getting older though. Maybe not wiser, but definitely older. There are a couple of things I’ve noticed that I do now that old people do ( Old= 45 and up. Sorry, I don’t make the rules).

  • I watch HGTV. Home and Garden Network, for those of you who don’t know what’s up. I’ve taken an interest in fixing up houses, decorating, buying property, etc. Meanwhile, I’ve never paid a bill in my life and I literally don’t know how mortgages work. I find that watching HGTV makes me feel a little more knowledgeable when it comes to buying a house…some day.
  • I wear my glasses a lot. I’ve had glasses since I was in 1st grade. I never felt pretty when I had glasses on. In high school I barely ever wore my glasses even though my optometrist said I would get a lazy eye if I didn’t wear them. I decided it was worth the risk. My thought process was “I’d rather have a lazy eye than wear glasses.” Normal. Now I wear my glasses all the time. I might as well invest in one of those sweet bands that hooks onto the ends of glasses so they can act as a necklace when they’re not on my face. So stylish.

Look out for these on the runway. Fall 2012.

  • I get allergies. I guess I had allergies when I was young too, but I just never acknowledged them. This summer I sneezed a total of 28,000 times. I counted. It was so annoying. I took every pill possible to cure my allergies, but nothing worked. Until I came across some nasal spray. How embarrassing is that? I have nasal spray. My husband kindly wrote is initials on his spray so that ours wouldn’t get mixed up. He wrote “butt spray” on mine.
  • I have insoles in my shoes. Like some kind of retiree, I walk around with insoles because one of my toes has a neuroma in it. Sounds fun right? It’s like a tumor in my toe, but not really because it’s not cancerous. It’s just this mass that makes my toe hurt or feel numb. Isn’t my life great? How did I get so lucky to have a neuroma in my foot? It’s like all my dreams have come true.

But don’t worry. There are still parts of me that have remained child-like and carefree.

  • I’m the worst at eating healthy. When I’m by myself I’ll eat pizza for lunch and popcorn for dinner. I love eating popsicles and chicken nuggets. Ramen noodles make my world go round. And I wouldn’t be happy unless I had a jar of Nutella in my pantry at all times.
  • I play video games daily. Not games like Halo or Grand Theft Auto. Mario Games, Crazy Taxi, games for N64 and Wii. One of my favorite things to do is to curl up on the couch and play video games and listen to music. I’ve been doing this since the 4th grade.
  • I love going to Disney World. It’s honestly one of my favorite places on earth. And I’ve been to a lot of places on earth, so take it from me. It was fun for me when I was 6, and it’s still fun for me even though I’m almost 25.
  • I still swing on the swings at parks. Whenever I walk past a park, or go to a jungle gym with the kids I babysit, I make sure that I hit up the swings at least once. Swinging is just so fun. I still jump off the swings in mid-air too. Like a pro.

I guess, technically, I’m getting older.  But it makes me happy that I still keep myself young by doing all the stupid stuff that I did when I was younger. I’m still the same old gal, havin’ fun and livin’ life.

Catch Up Session

I know that most of you are probably wondering where I’ve been–continuously refreshing this page in hopes of a new post. At least that’s what I like to imagine. In reality, everyone has most likely forgotten about this blog. So maybe I’ll start over. Hi, I’m Lily.

Instead of writing with a purpose, as if I were writing a newspaper article, I’m going to just write what I feel. I usually try to have some direction in which my posts show go (funny, informative, opinionated, etc) but this one is just going to be my ramblings. And slightly boring. But it will be very me.

Even though my blog is titled Lily in Canada, I’m actually not in Canada at the moment. I’m back in Chi-town (Chicago). I stopped in Las Vegas for 3 days because I’d never been and well, why the hell not, right? It was fun to see the sights, walk through crazy hotels and get some hot hot heat to thaw my body from the Canadian weather.

I also committed a major crime-I forgot my camera. Sooo here’s a picture of me sitting at my computer.

Excuse my beauty.

Anyway now I’m home and it’s weird. Nothing has changed. I’ve written about this before. After you’re married or move out, your childhood home is still your home, but it’s also not. It’s such a weird feeling. You can’t get too attached because you know you have to leave eventually. So I guess it’s kind of sad too.

I haven’t been reading that many blogs lately. And by that I mean, I haven’t been reading any. It’s kind of freeing actually. I would stress out by telling myself that I had to read every single post by every single one of my followers. So yeah, it kind of became more of a drag than anything. Don’t get me wrong, I love everything that everyone writes. I love that all of the WordPress bloggers are unique and that everyone’s true self shines through in their writing. It just came to a point where I was spending so much time on my computer that I wasn’t spending any time doing the things I like. I would reading blogs instead of hanging out with friends or working out or playing video games (don’t judge). So forgive me for not commenting or writing, or whatevs. I’ve been busy livin’ life.

Anyway, now that you’ve caught up with me, what’s new with you?

Post Grad Problems

When I see someone I went to high school with and they tell me about their awesome career:

When my husband gets home from work and asks me if I played video games all day:

When I want to buy furniture, but I also want to buy clothes:

If someone trusts me to hold their baby:

When I met someone taller than me:

When I stop for someone to cross the street:

When people ask me to hang out:

When I tell people I’m going to seriously get a job someday, they’re like:

When I’m trying to lose weight:

When my computer battery runs out and the cord is far away:
When I get all of the history questions wrong on Jeopardy even though I majored in history:

WoW

So ummm ehm I started playing World of Warcraft. I honestly don’t know what I’m doing half the time, but I like it. And my character looks cool. And my friend plays too so we can skype and run around playing the game together.

The thing is, for some reason (and people have warned me about this), it’s very addicting. I don’t know if you’ve seen the Youtube video of the boy whose mother cancels his WoW account, but he literally goes ballistic. It’s one of the best things I’ve seen.

I don’t know what it is that I find so addicting really. You have to complete quests which causes you to level up. I’m only level 9, but that’s after 2 days of playing. Collecting items and completing quests is what really hooked me in. If I look back into my childhood, every interest that I had, had to do with collecting something. Whether it be Beanie Babies, collecting stars on Super Mario 64, or catching all of the Pokemon (I mean, their tagline was “Gotta Catch ‘Em All!” Genius!) Kids and apparently 24 year olds like trying to complete missions by getting everything they need. Maybe it gives us a sense of purpose. Hey, I don’t pay the bills, but maybe I can become a level 15 Draenei and everything will be okay.

That’s another thing. Draenei. I love saying all of the names in the game because they make me sound so nerdy and weird. Like most games, it’s a battle of good against evil. I’m on the good side obviously.

So much likeness.

I can see why people play so much. It’s probably like a Catfish thing where they get to be someone else…like an elf or a dwarf. My friend knows someone who’s girlfriend dumped them for someone she met on World of Warcraft. No joke! What would happen when they went to meet each other? Immediate disappointment because neither of them looked like mythical creatures?

Just a quick little poll (but I’m not gonna make an actual poll–just tell me) : Which do you think is nerdier, World of Warcraft or Magic: The Gathering?

Tagging Along

I’ve been tagged to answer some questions. Since I never get tired of talking about myself, I decided to give it a go. I was tagged by A Gripping Life and Adair. AGL tagged me first, so I’m going to answer her questions. Sars Adair.

I’m tagging:

Adamsdaughter

Chez Sasha

Dribbling Pensioner

Conchsaladesque

Very Normal

Is It Possible To See It All

And anyone else who wants to do it!

Everyone else I know has already been tagged. Feel free to decline. You don’t have to do it, just thought it would be fun. But if you don’t do it, I’ll hate you forever.

Rules

1. You must post the rules.

2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and the create 11 new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.

3. Tag 11 people and link them on your post.

4. Let them know you’ve tagged them!

Here are the 11 questions that A Gripping Life asked me:

1. If deserted on an island, what is the one book, one film, and one album/CD you would request? Pillars of the Earth because it’s the longest book I’ve ever read. “Singin’ in the Rain” because it’s one of my faves. Plus it has good songs and dancing! And one album would be The Best of Elvis Costello and the Attractions. Too hard to choose. Maybe The Beatles, Rubber Soul?

2. In Heaven I hope there is an unlimited supply of pizza. Jk. But seriously. Sunshine. I can’t picture Heaven being cloudy, but you never know. I just want it to be sunny and warm all the time.

3. If I could change one body part it would be my feet! I hate having big feet 😦

4. My favorite day of the week is Friday because it’s the start of the freakin’ weekend!

5. The person/people who makes me laugh the most is my family. So many inside jokes. Also, my friend Natalie. And my friend Matt. Also Paul. They just get me. (I would have said that I make myself laugh the most, but I feel like that doesn’t count.)

6. My dream occupation would be working with animals in their natural habitat. One of my ultimate dreams is to hug a lion. I know I could do it.

7. My favorite dream car is uhmhm I don’t know.  A nice one? I don’t really know about cars.

8. My most hated teacher was Mrs. Tobison. My worst class was any math class. Oh and English Civil War.

9. Would you rather be eaten by sharks or eaten by lions or live in a world of mud? I can’t even think about a world of mud without laughing. It makes absolutely no sense. Sooo world of mud it is.

10. My favorite smells are summery smells. Lily of the Valley, sunscreen, Ralph Lauren Romance and the smell of the lobby of my favorite hotel. And Burberry Brit for the winter.

11. If I had to change my first name it would be either Layla or Beatrice (Bea for short). But I really love my name.

Here are the 11 questions for my tagees to answer:

1. If you could live in a different country for a year, where would you live?

2. What would you do if you were the opposite sex?

3. If there was a fire in your house and you could only save 3 things, what would they be? (Family and pets would be safe!)
