Bucket List

Never in my life have I made a bucket list. I was especially deterred from making one when the 2007 release of the movie “The Bucket List” came out. It disturbed me on more levels than one. Morgan Freeman’s voice can only do so much to save a movie. And no, I didn’t watch the movie. The trailer did enough damage.

I always saw my life’s journey through rose colored glasses. Everything was good, everything was doable, everything was in grasp. Well, now I realize that opportunities and adventures cost money and take time. So why not make a list of things to accomplish in the future–to remind yourself what you want to eventually do when the opportunity arises. Here’s mine:

1. Go to at least one country in Africa.

2. Go to at least one country in Asia.

3. Go to at least one country in South America. (I’ve been to Mexico…but I don’t think that counts.)

4. Buy a designer gown.tumblr_mztxkxCvyR1qzersvo1_500

5. Swim across the Straight of Juan de Fuca.

6. Ride a camel.

7. Snorkel around the Great Barrier Reef.

8. Give birth.

9. Go to a nude beach and bare it all.tumblr_n04xcwj2CM1rqbmmzo1_500

10. Save someone’s life.

11. Visit a national park.

12. Purchase a URL and have a .com website.

13. Punch someone.

14. Go to a psychic.

15. Learn to ice skate.

16. Go to an Ashram and learn to meditate properly.tumblr_mwrxln2Kxv1sj11ofo1_500

17.  Pet a whale.

18. See Aurora Borealis/Northern Lights

19. Write a story.

20. Learn to play piano.

What’s on your bucket list?

  1. That looks like a pretty full list! Some of those should be pretty easy. The piano playig might tae some work, unless you just want to learn one song. Like Mary Had A Little Lamb.
(It’s the only piano song I can play.)
(And I did once, at a room called Top Of The Sixes at 666 6th Ave.)
(Until the Maitre’D closed the piano lid on me.)
    (Jerk.)

Mine isn’t a bucket list either, despite all the things on it that may very well kill me.

    • Unlike that rude Maitre’D, I’m pretty impressed that you can play a song on the piano. I like that you painted the picture of where you played it–I like the idea of the Top of the Sixes room. Very cool.

Yeah, I think the piano playing and saving someone’s life would be pretty tough.

  2. I’ve nailed 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14. 15, 17 and 18. Have no chance on 4, 5 and 8. Gives me 9 done plus 3 not a chance so not to shabby. I have no bucket list, never will. I just want to take each day as it comes and if I have an opportunity, do something I haven’t done.

    • Dude, John, if I were you, I would be prettttty proud of my accomplishments! Seems like you definitely live life to the fullest so I don’t see the point in you actually making a bucket list either. That’s a good thing!

  3. I laughed at the punching one and I reckon if you wore a designer gown you’d look much happier about it than that girl in the photo does.

I don’t know what my list would look like. Swimming with dolphins is a popular one, but if it’s a wish list why be so mundane about it? I want to go walking with dolphins – hoist them lazy bastards out the water and put their tails to good use.

    • I know, right? models always look so sullen in their beautiful gowns. Haha I’m glad you laughed at the punching one. Maybe if we ever meet I can punch you and you can punch me and then I can check that off my list. I’ve always wanted to be slapped or punched. I didn’t want to put that on my list in fear that people would think I was a psycho.

I like the idea of your wish list. It would be nice to take a stroll with a dolphin or two. I’ve swam with some in the Bahamas. It’s pretty fun and weird. They’re so big and strong!

  4. That dress… It’s so… pretty! Like you’re in a fairytale. Nice.

Going to Russia, Poland and Czech republic again or high on my list. Currently priority. Further on I’ve got dreams that will never come true. I kind of expect the chances to come by theirselves – my bucket list would be more about taking as much opportunities as I get.

    • I know, right?! I love it so much. I think if I got a dress like that I would wear it around the house all the time just so I got good use out of it.

I would really like to go to Russia. I want to see St. Petersburg an casually drink vodka and wear fur hats. I’m with you on that one–expecting the chances to come by themselves. I never make opportunities for myself. I need to. That’s a good bucket list idea!

  5. Wow, nude beach? You are brave. I couldn’t do it even if I think it would be freeing. I once wrote a reverse bucket list of all the things I had accomplished and places I have been. It’s a pretty awesome feeling to see it all written down. Sometimes we forget how much we have actually done!

    • Hah I think it would be comforting to know that other people around me were nude as well. But yeah, still scary! I really like the idea of a reverse bucket list. Very cool and gives you a great sense of accomplishment! Very true! Wise words! Thanks Deanna!

  6. Grow a mustache and get a compliment on it. That’s all I care about.

What made you want to pet a whale? Did you see the movie Blackfish? The mean whale in it started off in Victoria.

    • That doesn’t seem too difficult. I compliment people’s facial hair even when I don’t like it. Just a conversation starter. So I’m sure it will happen even if the compliment isn’t necessarily sincere. But who knows, you might grow an awe-inspiring stache.

Idk. I might have even pet one before? I don’t think so though. I didn’t see the movie Blackfish because I don’t think I could deal with watching the cruelty! So sadddd. Dude if by “mean whale” you mean awesome whale, then that’s pretty sweet!

  7. Hahaaha. Great post! #13 is my favorite (and something I can proudly boast I’ve accomplished!) and #15??? You don’t know how to ice skate? Girl, you’re in Canada now. It’s like, all we do. (This is obvs semi-sarcasm, but seriously, you don’t know how to ice skate? Come to NS – I have spare skates in my trunk as we speak.)

    • That’s awesome that you’ve punched someone! Most people deserve a punch every now and then.
I know! I didn’t even learn how to ski until I was 18. I have really long legs so I have farther to fall, you see. A much more painful experience. I can get around a rink by sticking to the sides, but I need to learn to float on the ice. All that graceful stuff!

    I can check off 8, 11-15 and 19–twice.

Your list has things I’d be terrified to try, the swim part and the petting whales. Let me know how it goes and I can do a Shia Le Beouf and say it was me.

My list has things like meeting people I blog with, spending a year in England and finding peace.

    • Haha about Shia LeBeouf. But yeah who knows if I’ll even be able to accomplish them!
I find it funny how other people’s lists always seem very attainable compared to our own. Like how you’ve easily accomplished things from mine and vice versa. Kind of cool.
Glad to see ya around these parts Addie.

    • Haha that sounds good Linda! I’m glad you approve of my hopes and dreams. Giving birth seems like one of the harder goals I’ve set for myself–you’re a champ for birthing three! 😀

    • It’s funny because 9, 13, and 15 are the ones that people have commented on the most! I feel dumb for not having accomplished those yet!
That’s cool Harry! I wish I could play an instrument! I guess my voice is my instrument haha (I hate when people say that!).

  9. I love seeing people’s bucket lists, even though I don’t really have one. I have done 8 of yours, interestingly enough. All I have to say is the nude beach thing is overrated. 😉

My bucket list is really simple, although difficult to realize: escape the corporate rat race and live life on my own terms and schedule.

  10. Emily says:

I have so many things I still want to do… Probs giving birth is at the top of my priority list for now. Bc I’m 40!! God help me : ) if I don’t find the right person to settle down with, my bucket list will change altogether! I wonder…? Why do women have this terrible biological clock syndrome to deal with! And men know it too so they torment us all they can. I am not in the spirit of valentine’s day yet haha!!

  11. I don’t have a bucket list. I’ve never been interested in the whole concept.
As for yours, I think you’ll make a great mom – and a stunning naked person.
