Feelings

For My Mom

Last year I didn’t write a Mother’s Day piece because I was lazy. This year I am feeling equally as lazy, but I haven’t written anything in a long time and I’m feeling lots of love for my mom. Also, this was supposed to be posted yesterday, but I had a bit of picture fiasco.

It’s kind of great because I can write this post and a lot of you know who I’m talking about. You know my mom’s sweetness, her sense of humor, her comforting words. She’s like the WordPress mom. But she’s my real mom so I win.

I am also writing this because my brother wrote my mom a really nice note and ugh I’m the favorite so I have to secure my spot up at the top. Jk.

But seriously.

My mom has had a rough year. My whole family has. I mean, I could kind of see it coming because, lets be real, 2013 cannot be considered a lucky number for anyone. But she’s strong. Almost too strong. She’s protected my brother and I from sadness when we were little even when she was crying inside. I think that’s the hardest thing a mom can do-smile for her kids when she just wants to curl up in a ball. I can’t imagine doing that. Maybe that’s why I haven’t had kids yet.tumblr_mkee4urjBn1roedvzo1_500

She’s always happy and healthy. She sets a great example for my brother and I even though we don’t always follow it. But she let us make our own mistakes, she’s still proud of us when we’re mean or disagreeable. She comforts us when we’re low. She lets us have our freedom.

She has unconditional love and calmed me down whenever I got stressed out. And now I don’t care about anything so I guess that worked!

Out of all the mothers in the world, I have one of the most selfless, brightest stars around. She’s helped me become the sassy, fun-loving person I am today. She’s helped me take chances I wouldn’t have done on my own, and for that I owe her everything.

Thanks for being my support system, my confidant, and my best friend. I love you!

  1. Aw, you made me cry, which means this was an excellent note! Your mom is one heck of a swell woman, and a great role model for kids and other moms. We all want our daughters to call us their best friend…there is no greater accolade. You’ll be a wonderful mother when the time comes…look at the person who taught you the ropes of parenting.

I’d like to think my two see me as Dumbo’s mom, too. Great choice, Lily.

    • Oh Addie, you big sap! Hah I’m glad my words touched you. She is a great role model for future mothers, and for people in general. Thanks for your kind words. Motherhood seems so intense, it scares me to even think about it, but I guess it’s just one of those things that you have to jump into.

Thanks! I thought long and hard about which mom would represent my mom and Mrs Jumbo seemed to do the trick. She’s a winner πŸ™‚

You’re a lucky gal Lily. We all are actually. Your Mom is definetely a bright spot in my life πŸ™‚ She is the Word Press guru..one of the kindest, thoughtful bloggers around–spreading her care and love around.
    Great post dudette
    Audra

    • Aww thanks Audra! Everyone that knows my mom is super lucky, for sure. It’s amazing how so much light can be emitted from one person huh? I hope I can be like her when I grow up (I’m not grown up yet…right?!)
      Thanks lovely πŸ˜€

    • Thanks Jells! You’re one of the few bloggers who’ve met the glorious gal that she is! That was so fun. I still think about it all the time and how I need to come back to see you and Eebs and smiling A2 and your dogs. Haha and your Hubs even though I’m pretty sure he thinks we’re weird bloggers!

  3. Oh, my sweet Lil! What a kind little post this is. Would it be wrong to reblog it? Just kidding!! LOL!!!!!! (The idea of that just made me laugh.) I think you have secured your post as # 1 child- I’m betting on the fact that your brother won’t read this. If he does I’ll have to back peddle. Ha!

Some children make the job of parenting a cake walk, full of love and laughter. You are that child, Lily. It’s an honor and privilege to be your mother. I feel doubly blessed to have two such sweet and sensitive little spirits in my charge. Thank you for this loving and thoughtful gesture, even though it was born out of your competitive spirit. JK! I know it wasn’t. And sorry for the photo fiasco- I think that Dumbo’s relationship with his mom pretty much sums it all up. I love you, my Lil!! xoxox

**And for the rest of your readers and commenters… Well, you’re all too kind. I happen to be crazy about the bunch of you. How did I get so lucky to have such a beautiful group of friends?? This past year was difficult but each one of you was integral in lifting me up. You are the golden threads in my tapestry. I love you each for your support and kindness and for the beautiful women you are. πŸ™‚ (of course if any men read this I’ll have to amend it. Lol!)

    • Thanks for your kind words momma. They made my eyes well up! It probably doesn’t help that I’m watching Long Island Medium and it’s super emotional right now! I’m glad you liked the Dumbo/Mrs. Jumbo gif. I was trying to think of famous moms but I thought this one was the most gentle. Also, I found it in gif form which is of course, the best.
Look how much everyone loves you! It’s pretty great.
Hopefully I can be a great momma like you πŸ™‚

I just want to pipe in here a moment…Long Island Medium… freakish show eh? Wouldn’t you love to meet her?

  4. Your mom is truly the bestest of the best. I think you know I adore her, and she clearly did (and continues to do) an amazing job with you since you turned out so well, Lils.

Also. Dumbo. OMG sweetest movie EVA. And also kind of racist and weird but still really sweet.

    • Right? Everyone is always saying how they have the best moms and I want to be like, NO SERIOUSLY GUYS, I HAVE THE BEST ONE. Haha. She honestly loves you like one of her children, for really reals. We love you Em.

Dumbo is so good, but yes, also supes racist, but for some reason it’s totally fine.

  5. Your Mom is definitely my “Blogging Mom”. She’s great, and has a great daughter too. I’m so glad you guys have each other…and that you share each other with us. Great post.

  6. Mom of Lily Reigns Supreme. That is all that ever needs to be said on this topic.

But really, your mom is the best and we’re all planning on stealing her.

    • Haha thanks Timmy. Yeah she’s pretty great. But not as great as me, right? RIGHT?!?!?!
You can steal her any old time. I hog her too much anyway.

  7. What a lovely post! Couldn’t agree more. My mum and dad separated when I was quite young, and it wasn’t until years later I realised how hard it must have been for her, because she still continued to be my bubbly, happy mum.

Yay to mums! Also nice that Mother’s Day is celebrated the same day around the world

    • Yes! You know exactly what I mean. It’s so sad to think of that, for some reason 😦
But yeah, yay for moms! That’s cool that you celebrate Mother’s Day on the RIGHT day. I think the UK celebrates it in April or something? They’re crazy over there.

Pfft you’re lazy? It took me a fortnight to read this, I’m guessing mothers day over there is on a different date than it is over here. I don’t have to worry though because my mother will remind me every day that it’s mothers day until the day before. I can’t argue that Lisa is the best though, I can’t wait to one day give you both a genuine ‘Ard ‘Ug. Get your asses to England!

    • Yeah Mother’s Day is in May here. It’s in April over there right? Mothering Sunday or whatever? Hah.
Lol if I was a mom, I would remind my kids every day leading up to Mother’s Day too–and threatening them to get me something good. I’ll be such a good mom.
Yesss we need to visit! One of these days we’ll organize something and we’ll be causing havoc around the streets of London.

      • Pete Howorth says:

“It’s in April over there right?”

Hell if I know, I won’t be able to tell you that until about a week before when she begins reminding me again hah!
